Hope Schwing's German Chocolate Cake - "Sweet Talks" Ep. 2
Updated: Jun 5
Welcome back, friends! This week's episode I had the pleasure of making German Chocolate cake with Hope Schwing. It was a cake her grandma made for her frequently and she even told me she couldn't tell the difference between mine and her grandma's! I couldn't hold back and not share the recipe we made!

Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
8oz evaporated milk
½ cup SALTED butter
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ⅓ cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans (toasted for nuttier flavor)
Instructions:
Combine evaporated milk, brown sugar, butter, egg yolks, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, at a low boil until mixture turns a light caramel color and thickens, about 10 minutes.
Let cool for about 15 minutes and add in your coconut + pecans. Let cool completely before adding to your cake.
FOR CAKE:
German chocolate cake is a traditionally milk chocolate cake but you can make your favorite chocolate cake recipe OR a boxed cake mix. The frosting is REALLY the star of the show!
