Gabrielle's Scones - Sweet Talks Episode 13

Welcome to the season finale of Sweet Talks! It was only fitting to make SCONES. It was the first "quick bread" I have ever made and reignited my love for them. They are easy-peasy, no kneading necessary!!


  • 2 cups AP flour

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup cold SALTED BUTTER - cut into cubes

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking poweder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar

  • 2 TBS orange zest

  • add ins (optional): crystalized Ginger, blueberries, nuts, chocolate chips. etc.


  • Mix flour, sugar, orange zest, baking powder, and baking sugar together

  • Add in cold cubed butter, mix with your hand or in a food processor until the butter looks like little pebbles.

  • Add in the buttermilk and mix together until it becomes a sticky ball

  • lay dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for 30 seconds.

  • Form into a disc, use a pastry cutter or knife to cut into 8 triangles (like a pizza).

  • Lay them on a baking sheet (2 rows of 4), brush the tops with melted butter, sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.

  • Bake at 400F for 15 minutes.
